Junior -  Weekly email - Friday 8th September

Dear Parents / Carers

It has been lovely to welcome everyone into school and we hope that our new joiners have enjoyed their first week. We have a busy term ahead with lots of exciting events and activities planned for everyone

We have Parent information meetings for Year 3 and Year 5 parents on Tuesday 12th September

  • Year 5 - Parent information meetings  starting at 6pm
  • Year 3 - Parent information meetings - starting at 6.45pm

Author visit - On Thursday 28th September Year 3 and 4 will be visited by the well known Author Lucy Hawking. To pre-order copies of the books, ready to be signed and dedicated at school on the day, please click the link below and place your order through Chiltern Bookshops by 5pm, WEDNESDAY 27th SEPTEMBER:

ONLY BOOKS PURCHASED THROUGH THIS LINK WILL BE SIGNED AND DEDICATED ON THE DAY

Lucy Hawking is a children’s writer, the co-creator of non-fiction compendium Unlocking the Universe and the George fiction series, with her father Stephen Hawking. Lucy is a former journalist, having written widely for British newspapers, and she gives regular talks about science and stories to audiences all over the world.

Lucy Hawking will introduce her new book, Princess Olivia Investigates the Sea of Plastic, through an interactive and highly entertaining talk, designed to engage primary school audiences with storytelling, science and the wonder of the world's oceans. By sailing across the seas with Princess Olivia and her band of hilarious pirates, young audiences will investigate the mystery of the missing fish, dive around the reefs and find out how we can all help keep the oceans and our planet healthy and clean.

Summer Reading Challenge: We have heard from the village library that many of our children completed the library's 'Summer Reading Challenge.' It is fantastic to hear that so many children kept up their reading over the summer. If you have a certificate from the challenge, please do bring this into school so we can recognise your efforts in Friday Achievement Assembly.

PTA News
  • Jumpin' Jumpin' - We are holding a joint PTA event with the Junior School at JUMP IN Slough on Friday 29th September. Closing date for tickets is 15th September. Please see Classlist for all the information. Hope to see you there!
  • PTA AGM - We are pleased to invite you all to our AGM on Monday 25th September at 7:30pm at the Junior School. It’s a great opportunity for you to hear what the PTA have done over the last year, see what we could do this coming year, hear what money was raised and how it is being spent. We would love your input, help or just to say hello! We are currently a very small group of parents and really would love some extra help. There are so many ways to get involved from planning, making bookings, doing some shopping for stock or attending events and manning stalls. Please pop along and see what it’s all about. It’s a very relaxed meeting and everyone is very welcome

Crossing Patrol recruitment - Buckinghamshire Council are looking to recruit someone for the school crossing patroller vacancy in Chalfont St Giles - details here

Chalfont St Giles & Jordans Revitalisation Committee is in need of a new Minutes Secretary. The voluntary job is not onerous. We meet five times a year (including the AGM) usually in the Reading Room on a Monday in January, March, June and September. The meetings last around an hour and a half.  Committee members send their reports in email (which eases Minutes writing) and only Comments and Actions need to be recorded at the time. Volunteers: please contact Kathleen Martin 01494 870704 or kathleen.martin@talktalknet

Amazon Wish List - for future gifts, it is always lovely to know who has sent them so we can thank you properly! The link to the gift list can be found here https://amzn.eu/fVdAqFF
