Literacy & Reading - Bucks Libraries e-books

Buckinghamshire Libraries Update

We may have closed our library buildings  but our library service is still very active and we are all working hard to promote all our digital services and deliver the best possible service to our customers at this time. They can stay at home and still have access to a wide range of reading, listening, education support and information materials.

The great news is that we have already had 444 new online joiners since the beginning of March and new online joiners won’t expire until at least 30th June, so they can continue to use our digital resources. If you are not already member, join now at the link below(and no need to collect your membership card until libraries reopen).

We have increased our stock of eBooks and eAudiobooks, so customers have even more choice, and we are also exploring ways of making even more of our eReference resources available from home.

The team are doing a great job of promoting our eLibrary on social media and this is having a real impact:

  • eBooks loans up over 30% overall during the past month, with children’s eBooks up by 43%;
  • eAudio – now averaging over 600 users per day;
  • eMagazines – users up by 50%;
  • eNewspapers articles read up by over 58%

If you are not already familiar with all the options in our eLibrary, now is the time to explore them. If you have teens at home there are eBooks to tempt them here

eAudiobooks through Borroxbox are great for relaxing. You can set a timer so the eAudiobook turns itself off at night time, ensuring you don't miss a word if you fall asleep!

We are including the hashtag #LibrariesFromHome in all our posts, which is also being used by libraries all across the country, bringing us together in a national campaign to demonstrate the great offer that libraries have to support learning and promote well-being and relaxation at this challenging time. Look out for our staff reading recommendations and if you use social media please help us spread the word
