Junior - Weekly email - Friday 2nd February

Dear Parents / Carers

We hope that children enjoyed the PE Festivals run by Amersham school this week. It was lovely to meet former pupils who help to run these events as sports leaders at Amersham School. Thank you to the parents who helped out with the Year 4 and Year 5 Festivals this week

Good luck to the boys U10s football team who have a match at Chalfont St Peters Academy this afternoon.

Our Arts Week is the week of 19th to 23rd February and our Arts week theme this year is based on celebrating 100 years of Disney.

Year 3 will be watching the movie 'Moana' and creating some Polynesian inspired art. As this is a PG film we are asking for consents for Year 4 children to watch this film - details here

Year 4 will be watching the movie 'Coco' and creating some Mexican inspired art. As this is a PG film we are asking for consents for Year 4 children to watch this film - details here

Communication - if you have an issue or a question for a member of staff please email in via the school office and your message will be forwarded to the relevant person. Please note that Google Classroom is only for children to communicate with their teachers and should not be used by parents for general questions or to raise general points.

Cocktail sticks - we would ask that children do not bring in cocktail sticks with their fruit snacks or lunchtime fruit. Thank you

Zebra crossings raised tables - public consultation. Please see the information below from the Chalfont St Giles Parish Council - You may be aware that Chalfont St Giles Parish Council proposed a number of traffic calming measures to Buckinghamshire Council through the HS2 Road Safety Fund. The only suggestion that was supported by Bucks Council was to raise the tables on the zebra crossings on the High Street and on Deanway. There is now a public consultation running until 18 February to explain exactly what is proposed and to ask the public to complete a short survey.

Buckinghamshore Council Energy Doctor service - If you want to improve the energy efficiency of your home you can request a visit from a domestic resource efficiency officer (called an 'Energy Doctor') if you meet their criteria. Energy Doctors can advise on ways that eligible households can reduce energy consumption and costs and put in place suitable low-cost easy retrofit resource efficiency (LCERRE) measures

LCERRE measures include:
  • draught proofing for windows, doors, letterboxes and chimneys
  • hot water cylinder insulation jackets
  • reflective radiator panels
  • secondary glazing film
  • portable solar generators
  • electricity consumption monitors
  • thermometer cards
  • LED lights
  • Heated throws

Eligibility - To qualify for a visit to their home, families must meet all of the following criteria:
  • they rent the property through a private rental agreement, or own and live in the property
  • their household has an income of £30,000 or less (before tax), is in receipt of means tested benefits such as Universal Credit and Council Tax Support, or a member of the household is disabled
  • the domestic property they live in has an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G, or does not legally require an EPC
  • We will prioritise visits for those who meet these eligibility criteria and live in the Opportunity Bucks areas.

How to make a referral - Please contact Better Housing Better Health in the first instance who can assess eligibility for an Energy Doctor visit and other services. Better Housing Better Health Tel: 0800 107 0044 or Website: Home - Better Housing Better Health (bhbh.org.uk)

Book donations - Many thanks to all the families for the generous book donations we have received over the last two weeks. The books have been of an excellent quality! We are still accepting donations of good quality, age appropriate, second hand books, these can be given to the office.
