Junior -  Weekly email - Friday 15th September

Dear Parents / Carers

We hope that everyone has had a good week and has now settled into the school routine.

School clubs - more clubs are starting next week but sadly there was not enough uptake for Chess Club so that will not be running this term. There is still time to sign up to clubs for this term - though some clubs are now full - full details are available here.

Open Days - We shall be holding Open Days for potential new pupils later this term. These are for parents of any Year 2 children who will be moving to Year 3 in September 2024. More details are available here. Parents who would like to book a tour on either Wednesday 18th October or Wednesday 22nd November are asked to contact the school office

Parent Information Meetings:
  • Year 4 - Parent information meetings - meeting will be held on Tuesday 19th September starting at 6pm
  • Year 6 - Parent information meetings - meeting will be held on Tuesday 19th September starting at 6.45pm

Harvest Festival donations - we are once again supporting the Parish Church in collecting items for their Harvest Festival.  Donated items will be shared between the AllTogether Community Initiative in the village and The Chiltern Foodbank. Donations can be dropped off in the collection boxes outside the school office before or after school on Monday 25th or Tuesday 26th September. Flyer with full details from the church is here

Specific food requested: Tinned fruit • Tinned meat • Tinned vegetables • Tinned custard • Tinned bolognese • Personal toiletries • Rice (500g) • Sardines • UHT milk • Long life juice • Instant coffee • Nappies

Head Lice - we are already seeing cases of head lice across the school - please remember to check your child's hair regularly and treat it if required. We ask that long hair is tied back. NHS info here . Thank you

Messages to school - if you are able to include your child's name and class with any messages about absences or pick up changes, that is really helpful for the office staff. Please send pick up messages before midday if at all possible.

Birthday sweets - our policy on birthday sweets has changed this term and they will no longer be given out at school. This is due to the increased severity of allergies and potential allergic reactions. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Author visit - a reminder of the visit by author Lucy Hawking on Thursday 28th September for Year 3 and 4. To pre-order copies of the books, ready to be signed and dedicated at school on the day, please click the link below and place your order through Chiltern Bookshops by 5pm, Wednesday 27th September.   Only books purchased through this link will be signed and dedicated on the day - https://schools.chilternbookshops.co.uk/events/lucy-hawking/ Lucy Hawking will introduce her new book, Princess Olivia Investigates the Sea of Plastic, through an interactive and highly entertaining talk, designed to engage primary school audiences with storytelling, science and the wonder of the world's oceans. By sailing across the seas with Princess Olivia and her band of hilarious pirates, young audiences will investigate the mystery of the missing fish, dive around the reefs and find out how we can all help keep the oceans and our planet healthy and clean.

Beech class swimming - swimming lessons start for Beech class next Wednesday. If you have not yet completed the swimming information and consent form please do so as soon as possible. Children who are swimming will need to come to school in PE kit on Wednesday and to bring a waterproof bag with the following items: ● Suitable swimwear ● Towel ● Swim cap (for those with longer hair – Chiltern Lifestyle Centre guidelines)

PTA AGM - We are pleased to invite you all to our AGM on Monday 25th September at 7:30pm at the Junior School. It’s a great opportunity for you to hear what the PTA have done over the last year, see what we could do this coming year, hear what money was raised and how it is being spent. We would love your input, help or just to say hello! We are currently a very small group of parents and really would love some extra help. There are so many ways to get involved from planning, making bookings, doing some shopping for stock or attending events and manning stalls. Please pop along and see what it’s all about. It’s a very relaxed meeting and everyone is very welcome

Crossing Patrol recruitment - Buckinghamshire Council are looking to recruit someone for the school crossing patroller vacancy in Chalfont St Giles - details here
