Infant - Weekly email - Friday 9th February

Dear Parents / Carers

We hope that you all have a good half term break
Our Arts Week is the week of 19th to 23rd February and our theme this year is based on celebrating 100 years of Disney. Each year will be using a different film for inspiration.

World Book Day - as part of our celebrations for World Book Day on Thursday 7th March 2024, we would like to invite your children to come to school dressed as an exciting word, with our theme being ‘Wonderful Words.’ The possibilities for this are endless and full details are given in the letter here (edited to add link)

The children will also be visiting the CSG Community library during the week before  - dates for this are as follows:

  • Tuesday 27th February – Year Six visiting CSG Community Library
  • Thursday 29th February – Year Four visiting CSG Community Library
  • Tuesday 5th March – Year Three visiting CSG Community Library
  • Thursday 7th March – Year Five visiting CSG Community Library

In addition we will be running a second-hand book sale which all children will have the opportunity to visit on World Book Day. We will be asking for a donation of 50p for a book and kindly ask that children initially only bring in one 50p for one book, so we can ensure all children are able to choose one. Any books left over at the end of the sale will be available for everyone at an after-school sale in the dining room. We are very grateful for all the kind donations we have received for this sale; the money raised will go back into buying new and interesting books for the children

Year 3 PE Festival - we are still looking for a couple of parent helpers for the Skipping Festival on Wednesday 28th February - timings are 8:45am to 11:15am. If you are able to help please can you contact the school office. Thank you

Year 3 PE Dance lessons - the Year 3 PE dance lessons have been rescheduled so these will happen next half term on Thursday 22nd and 29th February; This means that Year 4 will swap their PE days again those weeks - thank you for your support with these changes

  • Year 3 to wear PE kits on Thursday 22nd and 29th February (not Mondays those weeks)
  • Year 4 to wear PE kits on Tuesday 20th and 27th February (not Thursdays those weeks)
  • Year 5 to wear PE kits on Wednesdays as normal from now on.

Year 4 School Linking - our Year Four children have a fantastic opportunity to take part in a Schools Linking programme this year. We will be linking with Turnfurlong Junior School and full details are given here

Songs of Praise - Message from Chalfont St Giles Parish Church: It was lovely to welcome Year 3 to ‘Songs of Praise’ at church on Tuesday this week, and to see a good number of parents there as well. At the end of the service, all the children were congratulated
on their excellent reading and also their wonderful singing. There was also an open invitation to any children who might like to sing in the church choir (incidentally, two Year 3 and two Year 4 pupils already sing in the choir). Choir practices during term time are held in
the church on Fridays, 5.15pm to 6.15pm (followed once a fortnight by pizzas!). The choir sing at the 9.30 service on Sunday mornings. If you think your child might be interested in joining the choir, please contact Cathy Langdale, the church choir director on csgchurchchoir@gmail.com for more details. She will be delighted to hear from you.

Illness - we would like to remind parents that children who have been off school poorly should not be attending evening PTA events, such as the disco, on the same day

Pencil cases and stationery - a reminder that we ask children in Year 4, 5 and 6 to have the following stationery in school - a glue stick, a couple of HB pencils for writing, rubber, handwriting pen (if they have a pen licence), whiteboard pen, ruler and pencil sharpener..

Citizens Advice Bucks - their information pack to help families struggling with the cost-of-living crisis is now available here Cost of Living Help for Families for information about food, energy, housing and more. The charity is also running a Free course designed to help you manage personal finances with lots of helpful tips and advice. The course is online or via in person workshops. You can find our more information about these on the flyer here or sign up for the online course by clicking here Money Matters Course

Book donations - Many thanks to all the families for the generous book donations we have received over the last two weeks. The books have been of an excellent quality! We are still accepting donations of good quality, age appropriate, second hand books, these can be given to the office.

Junior School Amazon Wish List - for future gifts, it is always lovely to know who has sent them so we can thank you properly! The link to the gift list can be found here https://amzn.eu/fVdAqFF
