The Creative Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum

At our school the term ‘Creative Curriculum’ defines our approach to learning and teaching. This encompasses many standalone subjects (Geography, Art, DT and History). We focus on the development of skills, which are supported by knowledge and experiences. The Creative Curriculum approach encourages connections to be made across subject areas and within areas of learning to enhance the children’s ability to make sense of the world in which they live.

Our approach includes high quality enriching experiences, beyond the statutory requirements, for all of the children across the academic year. These include:

  • Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC)- using the school grounds, the locality, the wider environment and trips and residential visits.
  • themed weeks, e.g. STEM week, Arts Week
  • drama workshops and focus days eg Greek Day and Village Fete Day
  • visits from other key people e.g. police and fire service
  • support from parents.

Our LOtC mission statement:

At Chalfont St Giles Village School Learning Outside the Classroom contributes to the development of the whole child. It is our mission to encourage our children to:-

  • Explore outside and make connections with all aspects of their learning
  • Ask and answer questions of both the built and natural world and reach their own conclusions
  • Show care and respect for all things
  • Be inspired and motivated by the wonder of our world
