Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so that we can support disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers. Research has shown that children from disadvantaged backgrounds generally face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as their peers.

The pupil premium grant is designed to allow schools to support disadvantaged pupils by identifying any barriers to learning and taking steps to address these. Details of how we provide this support can be found at the bottom of this page.

For any more information, or enquiries about how to apply, please email the Infant or Junior school office.

How do I know if my child is eligible for pupil premium funding?
Lower Income Families

Pupil premium is allocated to pupils from lower income families and the eligibility check is identical to the Free School Meals eligibility check. Qualifying benefits are as follows:

  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker's Allowance (income-based)
  • Employment and Support Allowance (income-based)
  • Child Tax Credit based on income below £16,190
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Asylum Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Working Tax Credit 'run on' (this is the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Families who receive any level of Working Tax Credit are not entitled to free school meals.
Service Children

Children of armed service personnel are also eligible for Pupil Premium funding. Service children are children and young people from families where one or more parents is currently serving in the British Armed Forces of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Pupils are eligible for the premium if they meet the following criteria:

  • one of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces

  • one of their parents served in the regular armed forces in the last 3 years

  • one of their parents died while serving in the armed forces and the pupil is in receipt of a pension under the Armed

Looked After and Adopted Children

Children who have been adopted from care or have left care as well as children who are looked after by the local authority are also eligible.

If you think your child is eligible for Pupil Premium, please contact the school office. Staff within our offices and our Pupil Premium Lead will help parents understand if they qualify and will support them with filling out forms if required.

Our Pupil Premium Offer

We carefully consider how we can best support disadvantaged children within our school community and how we can overcome any barriers that children may face in reaching their potential. This is explained in our Pupil Premium Strategy. The key principles of this strategy are:

  • To support our disadvantaged pupils academically and mentally so that they can succeed
  • To build and maintain strong relationships with our disadvantaged pupils and their parents/guardians
  • To provide good role models for our disadvantaged pupils
  • To inspire our disadvantaged pupils, increasing their cultural capital and understanding of the world

This supports our ambitions for all pupils:

  • to be happy, resilient, healthy, well-balanced life-long learners, who strive to achieve their potential.
  • to enjoy a skills-based curriculum to be an exciting, inclusive, inspiring, relevant adventure of learning through which the children develop the academic and life skills they need.
  • to provide an open community where we have a sense of team spirit and belonging and where we nurture a love of learning for everyone in the school family.
  • to create an ethos which promotes physical and mental health for all and where we value and respect each other.

Below is our Pupil Premium strategy for 2024-2026. This outlines the areas we have identified for spending our funding for the coming year. Also linked is a letter outlining areas of support for individual families that is available using the pupil premium funding.
