As part of the school’s ongoing commitment to providing an enriched curriculum through outdoor learning, the Year One children will be taking part in outdoor learning sessions on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons in our Woodland area and Shakman playground. These lessons will build on the children’s previous Reception Woodland School experiences as well as teaching them key cross-curricular objectives.
On Wednesday afternoons, Emerald class will need to wear their woodland school clothing (long sleeved top, trousers, socks) to school and bring their wellie boots, gloves and waterproof outer layers in a bag ready to change into after lunch.
The first session for Emerald class will be Wednesday 7th September and weekly thereafter. We understand this is short notice so if you do not have the full kit please could you just ensure your child has a coat tomorrow.
On Thursday afternoons, Ruby class will need to wear their woodland school clothing (long sleeved top, trousers, socks) to school and bring their wellie boots, gloves and waterproof outer layers in a bag ready to change into after lunch.
The first session for Ruby class will be Thursday 8th September and weekly thereafter.
Please ensure that the children are dressed appropriately for the changeable weather with extra layers for warmth and waterproof, hooded coats and trousers. They will need long sleeves and long trousers to protect their skin from branches and brambles. These items are key as we will be spending the afternoons outdoors, embracing all weathers. Each week, please ensure all items of clothing are clearly named, including boots and shoes.
At the end of the school day, we will dismiss the children from the Shakman playground.
If you have any queries or would like to offer your skills or your support for the development of outdoor learning across the school sites, please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of the Year 1 team.
Kind regards
