Weekly email - sent Friday 22nd May

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for all of your wonderful messages on World Thank a Teacher Day- the teachers really appreciated them. In return we thank you for all of your work teaching at home.

This half term has been a strange one. We have missed the children and missed you all too. It has been lovely to see a few of you around as I take my daily walk. I hope you will be able to enjoy the sunshine and our local area at some point over the coming week. I wonder if you will be able to hear the cuckoo and woodpecker I have heard in the woods recently.

Thank you to all of the parents who have replied to us regarding the gradual reopening of Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. The staff have worked wonders and turned these requests around and our phased plan is coming together. We are working hard to ensure that all of our policies, procedures and the environment is ready for when the children return.

Please be reassured we will be planning some transition and induction activities and if we are able to carry these out safely we will try to do this for other children if possible.

Today we have been making food deliveries to our known vulnerable families. They are so appreciative of this support. I would again like to thank everyone who has made a donation to this worthy cause. We aim to make our next deliveries on Friday 5th June. If you are able to support us again, please place donations at The Feathers Pub in the centre of the village.

READING SUPERSTARS (Junior - Infants see separate Reading Challenge)

The weekly Reading Superstars challenge will be running over half term! You can take part by completing lessons and activities on Reading Eggspress. The Superstars will be announced on Tuesday 2nd.

You may also want to challenge yourself and your family to complete the Reading Grid that was sent home this week. Each activity takes about 20 minutes and it will be a good way to keep busy and have fun over half term.

On 1st June I will be holding a virtual training day for all staff. This will include a range of activities including preparing staff to support your children with their mental health and wellbeing. There will not be any planned learning for this day.

We will be issuing you with a school report in a shortened format this year that will give you feedback about your child’s time in their current year group. This report will come to you via email on 10th July.

The governors have reviewed recent feedback and worked with me to produce a feedback document which can be found here.

A huge thank you must go to the Governing Body for their hard work and dedication to our school. During this crisis they have been so helpful and supportive. They have also committed a great deal of time to meetings, reviewing documentation, discussing the curriculum with subject leaders, budget planning and much more. We are so privileged to have them as part of our team.

There are new resources developed by CEOPS available to support online safety.  They are on the website here
