Juniors Weekly email (sent Friday 14th Sep)

Dear All
We have had parent information meetings for parents in Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 this week. Copies of the presentations and the termly topic packs are on the class pages of the school website - Year 3  - Year 4  -  Year 5.
These packs will give you timetables but as a quick reminder of PE days: Monday is Year 3; Tuesday is Year 6; Wednesday is Year 5; Thursday is Year 4
Class Parent Communications and Classlist: Regular communication between parents is important in helping us build a supportive and welcoming school community.  Recent data protection changes mean parents now rely on a variety of informal channels to contact each other, ranging from ad-hoc email lists to social media groups on Facebook and WhatsApp. These can work well but raise important concerns over inclusiveness, security and safeguarding - particularly when used to distribute personal data, and exchange information.

The school, working closely with a number of volunteers over the summer, has looked carefully at what might serve parent needs best in this area.  This year we are introducing a new “built for purpose” app called Classlist. This enables parents to find and contact each other securely, whilst giving each parent complete control over what data is shared. Classlist, which is UK based, holds appropriate security and GDPR certifications and recently won top prize at BETT, the world’s largest education technology event.

Our parent community is of course much more than an online address book. Using Classlist you can set up events; form special interest groups; discuss arrangements for parties or liftshares and volunteer.

It takes a couple of minutes to get started - first download the Classlist app on iOS or Android; select Chalfont St Giles Village School and choose what data to share with your fellow parents.

We are launching the Classlist app today. You should recieve an email from the school this evening to invite you join. I would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible as this will be the replacement tool for your Class Parent communication.

All parents will receive and email inviting them to join later today. I would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible as this will be the replacement communication tool for your Class Parent communication.

This will replace ALL other methods of Class Parent communication including email and WhatsApp groups.

Earrings and long hair - Please be reminded that children are not permitted to wear earrings of any kind in school. If your child has their ears pierced recently please ensure that the earrings are taped over prior to coming in to school otherwise they should be removed before coming in to school.

The library is open from 12:20 to 13:10 on days that we have library volunteers. Full training will be given if you have not helped before and you will need to have a DBS check.

Year 3 - Egyptian day is on Monday 24th September and the children can come to school dressed as an Egyptian. Please note that they will also be outside for normal break times so may need a coat/jumper depending on the weather. Please ensure that costumes are comfortable to wear all day and ensure that they have sensible footwear for a day at school. Thank you to the parents that have made a voluntary contribution for this workshop. We are still quite a bit short on payments for this activity and will review, early next week, if we have funds to cover the costs of the day.
Year 6 -  Please see attached leaflet from the Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust re services that they provide for Year 6 children in school. This includes information about their weight and height measurement programme in school. The School Nurse team will visit Year 6 on 22nd November.
