Juniors - Weekly email - Friday 27th May

Dear Parents / Carers
What a busy week! Thank you to everyone who has supported events in school this week. We have had mini enterprise sales, school photographs, sporting inspiration from basketballer Pierre Henry-Fontaine, house team multi-sport competitions with the sports leaders from CCC and a joyous day of Jubilee celebrations with the Infant School plus a hot dog lunch today.
We hope that everyone has a restful and relaxing half term break.
Sports for Champions - thank you to everyone who contributed to this event. A fantastic sum of £1700 has been raised so far. If you still have donations to hand in please can these be sent to the school office as the CrowdFunder site is now closed.
School lunch ordering - the way that we place orders with St Josephs kitchens now means that we need to give them our meal numbers a week in advance. To assist with this we ask that all school meal orders are placed on ParentMail by the Monday of the week before. From Monday 30th May the ordering window will change to 7 days in advance to assist with this.
Platinum Jubilee Window Competition  - the Parish Council are organising a window dressing competition for the Jubilee. Details have been sent home with children this week or can be found here
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trail - details of this are available hereJoin in this historic occasion by taking part in our free, magical augmented reality storytrail.
Programme of Jubilee weekend events to be held in Chalfont St Giles over the Bank Holiday weekend is available here
Song for the Queen's Jubilee - There is going to be sung at a Jubilee service of celebration at the village church on Friday 3rd June starting at 2pm. It will be sung again on the Village Green on Sunday 5th June at 12 noon, at the start of the Chalfont St Giles Village Street Party. It would be wonderful if children, and parents, could join in one or both of these performances.  A copy of the song is available here and details of the events are given here
Village Clean Up Day - Saturday 28th May from 10am to 12 noon. This year, the Buckinghamshire Best Kept Village Competition is back! As current holders and previous winners (many times!) of the competition, we know that having the prestigious ‘Best Kept Village’ sign on the village green brings travel and tourism to our village, which in turn helps to support the shops and businesses that we value so much and love to use.

In preparation for the competition (the judging of which will take place on an unknown date in June) we are holding a “Village Clean- up Day” on Saturday 28th May between 10am and noon. If you have a couple of hours to spare, please come along and join your Parish Councillors on the village green and collect litter from within the village centre. You could also bring along some gardening hand tools and help to clear the weeds from the pavements.

If you cannot come along on Saturday, you can always do some litter picking closer to home to make sure that your street is looking its best.

To those people who received our “Clean and Green” litter pickers last year, thank you for your ongoing support in helping to keep Chalfont St Giles clean and green.

Accessibility paths at Bowstridge Lane Recreation Ground - In June, two new paths will be created at the recreation ground, to improve accessibility. The Parish Council would like to thank a parishioner for a generous donation towards this project. Improvements will also be made to some of the existing paths that have failed and to the vehicle access to the car park. The work will begin on 30 May and will last approximately three weeks (weather dependent). We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works.
