Junior - Weekly email (sent home Friday 15th Feb)

Dear All

Year 4 had a great morning of Benchball at the PE Festival on Tuesday competing against other local schools and supported by Sports Leaders at Amersham School. A special thank you to Mr Newton who visited Year 3 on Thursday afternoon and gave them a fascinating talk about dinosaurs.

Cross Site Reading - the Infant School gave our Year 4, 5 and 6 children a lovely welcome when they went to the Infant School for a half hour of reading today. All of the children seemed to really enjoy spending time together - even the siblings!

Chimp Management and Metacognition: It was great to see Prof Steve Peters, author of the series of books exploring how to understand your brain, on the One Show this week.

Our school began working with Professor Peters and his team six years ago when we trained staff to use and apply his model of managing your brain and emotions. Four years ago we began our program of supporting the children at school to better understand how their brains work. This approach to learning is central to our school ethos as understanding ourselves is really important if we want to be happy and successful. If you’d like to learn more about Dr Peters’ work please watch the One Show from 13th February (available on BBC iPlayer) His interview is in the last 15 mins of the program. I am excited about his new book  ‘My Hidden Chimp’ and I’m looking forward to our next training day after Easter when we will be revisiting our ‘Chimp’ training and further exploring strategies to support your children.

Gardening - for all those keen gardeners out there, the class gardening competition is fast approaching... the start date and judging criteria will be announced soon! Please get in touch with your class teachers to offer your support!

Parents evening - the booking system is now open for Parents Evenings - an impressive 50% of parents had already booked appointments by 3pm today!

Parking near Milton's Restaurant - we have been asked, by a local resident, to remind parents and carers  not to park on the double yellow lines outside Milton's Restaurant and not to block the pavement or resident's cars parked outside the restaurant. The parking area outside Milton's restaurant is private parking.

Year 3 - Shortenills trip - thank you to those of you who have made a donation for this trip - we can confirm that this trip will go ahead.

Year 4 - Saxon day workshop - we can confirm that this workshop day in school will go ahead. Thank you for all of your donations.

Year 4 - Spring term topic pack is now on the Year 4 class website page
