Junior - Weekly email sent Friday 20th July

Dear All

 

We had a lovely whole school assembly to say farewell to Cate and Doug from Pets as Therapy on Tuesday. They have supported children in our school for many years and will be sadly missed. As a result of our charity day on Tuesday we raised over £120 for the Pets as Therapy Charity. Thank you.

 

We hope that Year 6 have all enjoyed their special day today that was funded from their Mini Enterprise sales - thank you to Mr Holt for providing the bouncy castle and thank you to the staff of Year 6 for organising and supervising the water slides, bouncy castle, splash pools, mocktails, pizza. karaoke and ice cream van today.


Gardening competition - First: Oak Class; Runner up: Ash Class.  Well done and congratulations to all of our classes for their amazing efforts! Thank you to all of our parent helpers for their time, donations and advice! Our governor judges were very very impressed with all of the raised beds! There are a few photos on the school blog. These were the judges comments:

 

  • Acacia produced a Harry Potter themed garden with amazing courgettes!

  • Bonsai produced a Wizard of Oz themed garden with a clear theme and relevant decor!

  • Maple produced a ‘space’ themed garden with ingenious decor!

  • Beech produced a ‘fresh’ garden with good tomatoes, black currants and had a good layout of plants!

  • Acer produced a beautiful water garden complete with frog pond and mermaid and had impressive beef tomatoes and corn!

  • Palm produced a ‘green’ garden with an amazing scarecrow!

  • Ash produced a wide variety of plants-11 different edible plants in their fitness garden!

  • Oak produced a Peter Rabbit themed garden with good, healthy plants, a clear theme with relevant decor and good documentation!

Ash Class Flash Produce Sale - outside Ash class at pick up today - produce from Ash's garden will be available for a donation

 

Football news - the U11 football team were presented with their trophies today for winning their league this season. Congratulations to them and thank you to Mr Holmes for managing the team this year.

 

Menu changes for next week. Allergen details are on the website here:

  • Monday 23rd July: Cheese & Tomato Pizza (V)/ Pesto Pasta (V)/ Jacket Potatoes (V). These to be served with Baked Beans, Sweetcorn and Salad with dessert of Vanilla Ice Cream or Fresh Fruit.

  • Tuesday 24th July: Hot Dogs (Pork sausages)/ Vegetarian Hot Dogs both in Buns with Ketchup. These to be served with salad with dessert of Chocolate Chip Muffin or Fresh Fruit.

 

Year 6 - leavers Day - Tuesday 24th July - All Year 6 to bring in a packed lunch 

 

Reading challenge - we owe a huge thank you to the CSG Community Library for supporting our Reading Eggs project. Our summer reading challenge this year is for the children to get involved with their summer reading scheme. Lots of ideas available in the library or on the website and a copy of the reading challenge flyer is available here.

 

End of year housekeeping:

 

Library - the school library will not be opening this term. Please can any library books be returned via the red library drop box outside the school office.

 

School Meals and ParentPay - please can you ensure that all outstanding balances for school meals are cleared by the end of the school term. This is especially important if your child is leaving the school at the end of this term. Many thanks.

 

Lost property - we have a large heap of lost property in the room just off the Main Hall. Any items still in the lost property box at the end of term will be disposed off - either to charity shops, spare uniform or bin as appropriate. If you are missing any items please do check 

 

Medicines - any pupil medicines held in school will be sent home via children at the end of term (Tuesday 24th July). Please advise the school office by the end of Monday if you would prefer that an adult collects these from the office at the end of  the day on Tuesday. 

 

Spare uniform - if you have any outgrown or unwanted, but good quality, uniform items they would be gratefully received by the school. Items, including P.E kit, logo'd jumpers, ties and trainers, can be handed to class teacher or dropped off at the school office. 

 

Monday 23rd July

  • Talent Show during the afternoon

 

Tuesday 24th July

  • Breakfast Club in the ATA Room with Mrs Rock and Mr Shankland - 08:00 to 08:45 (Invited pupils only)

  • Maths Club in the IT Suite with Mrs Crosbie - 08:15 to 08:45 (Invited pupils only)

  • Year 6 leavers morning timings are as follows 

    • 09.15 to 10.15 - Awards Assembly (all Year 6 parents are invited). 

    • 10.15 to 10.45 - Break and tea/coffee (all Year 6 parents are invited). 

    • 10.50 to 11.50 - Leavers Assembly (all Year 6 parents are invited but please note that due to restricted numbers allowed in the hall, no siblings should attend). 

    • 12:00 - Parents leave site 

    • 12:20 to 13:20 - Year 6 children eat their packed lunches together – hopefully outside as a picnic, weather dependent. (All Year 6 to have a packed lunch). 

    • 13:30 – 14:15 - Children in class with class teachers.

  • Normal lunch for Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 children - please note revised menu

  • Last day of term - school finishes at 2.15pm today

Wednesday 5th September - INSET day for staff training - children do not attend school today


Thursday 6th September - School opens for Autumn Term
