Junior - weekly email sent Friday 13th March

Dear All

It has been lovely to have so many visitors for our Dads to School afternoon. A huge thank you to the PTA for running the Cafe today and providing gifts for Mother's Day surprises. It was great to see the children dressed up in their sports clothes to support Sports Relief today - we raised a total of £183.30.

Year 4 were lucky with the weather for their residential this week - they had a quiz indoors instead of a campfire on Monday evening but otherwise missed none of the planned activities. We hope that they all enjoyed the experience and we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff who helped with this trip.

Despite a rather rainy start to Thursday both Year 3 and Year 5 enjoyed their day trips yesterday. Year 3 learned a lot about what it was like to live in the Stone Age  - they have shared lots of photos on their blog here. Year 5 visited two very different churches in Chalfont St Peter. They learned about the religious uses of the two buildings and did some sketching of the different architectural features. Thank you to the parents who helped us on these two trips.

Our football team took on Little Chalfont Junior school in an U11s league match yesterday. Well done to everyone who took part.

Rotary IT Competition winners - Congratulations to the following children who have all won prizes in the recent Rotary poster design competition - Overall Year 6 Winner - Amy. Dylan in Year 6 also won a prize as did Martha and Haydn in Year 5. They and their families have been invited to the Prize Giving Ceremony on the 20th March.

Hand washing - we are asking all visitors to either wash their hands upon arrival at school or to use the hand sanitizer that is available at the School Office. When you are attending meetings at school, including parents evenings, please can all parents wash their hands in the main block toilets or go to the main entrance so they are able to use the hand sanitiser there.

A huge thank you to Dr Singleton, who has been coming in to school to give all of the children hand washing lessons. She visited Year 6 and Year 3 this week and will visit Year 5 and Year 4 next week.

Slapped Cheek (Fifth disease) - there have been a number of cases of Slapped Cheek across the school recently. Please be aware that children are no longer contagious once the rash has appeared and there is no need to keep them off school unless they are still feeling unwell. For further details please see here

Year 4 Swimming - Acer will have a swimming lesson on Wednesday 1st April to make up for the session that was missed this week due to being at Woodrow.

Reading workshop - there are still spaces available for the reading workshop that Miss Warner is holding on Thursday morning. The purpose of this workshop is to demonstrate how reading is taught at the Junior School, including the expectations for different year groups, along an example of the level of questioning taught and comprehension style questions. Sign up via google docs form or use printed reply slip on the letter

Self Isolating - we emailed all parents about this today. Ffollowing Government advice we are asking anyone who shows certain symptoms to stay at home for 7 days, regardless of whether they have travelled to affected areas.
