Junior - Weekly email - Friday 9th July

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have 3 year groups currently self isolating along with 20 staff. Huge thanks goes to everyone for managing this difficult break in their lives and routines. The children have been so well engaged with their online learning and have been full of enthusiasm. I know the teachers have been really impressed with everyone. We look forward to welcoming them all back into school on Tuesday next week.

This week I was privileged to be in the Year 1 and 2 class rooms when the staff were sharing stories and memories of Charlie Mason (Year 1) who sadly died. The atmosphere at school was somber but there were some giggles, some wonderful memories were shared and we talked. I could not be more proud of the staff who have done an amazing job supporting the children, in Year 1 and 2 in particular, and across the whole school where children have asked questions and shared thoughts and ideas about death and the future.

There will be a Remembering Charlie Fund which I will share with you next week.

End of term - Our end of term does not coincide with the Government's plan to end some restrictions on 19th July. We will continue with our current bubble arrangements until the end of term on 21st July. This will allow us to do all we can to ensure that everyone stays safe, and their holidays are not impacted by Covid 19 or any restrictions that may be in place. I appreciate your understanding and support.

Sports Week Blog - our sports week blog is now live here

A message from Chalfont St Giles Community Library - The Summer Reading Challenge starts on Saturday 10th July at all Buckinghamshire libraries. If you go down to the village library your child can register for the challenge and receive stickers and a medal for reading six books over the summer.  There is also a Mini Challenge for under 4s.  If your child isn’t yet a member of the library, they can join at the same time. Summer Reading Challenge details are here

Morning Maths Club - please note that the morning maths club has now finished.

Volunteer readers - thank you to our volunteers who have been coming in to read with the children this term. We have a lot planned for the remainder of the term so we will not be needing afternoon readers to come into school.

Cleaner Vacancy - our cleaning company Heart Cleaning is currently recruiting staff - details are on the website here

Classlist Groups - it is lovely that so many parents are using Classlist to organise parties and social events. We do now have a lot of groups set up on Classlist so the school admins will be doing some tidying up over the summer. If there is a particular group that you have set up and that you think you will need to use next academic year please can you let us know by email with your details and the Classlist Group name. Thank you

Cake Sale for Scout Roof Appeal Oscar and Matthew raised over £50 at their bake sale yesterday. Well done boys!
