Junior - Weekly email - Friday 18th February

Dear Parents and Carers

We hope that you are all safe and well and not too blown away today. Wishing everyone a restful and helthy half term break,

World Book Day - Thursday 3rd March - We are very excited for World Book Day and we are looking forward to a fun day of activities. As part of the day, the children are welcome to come to school dressed up as their favourite book character. We look forward to seeing all of their costumes and hearing about their favourite characters.

Friday mornings - Every Friday morning from 4th March parents and carers are invited to come into their child’s class to read, look at their child’s books and visit the classroom. This session will be from 8.45am to 8.55am. Please be aware that if Covid cases increase this may have to be suspended for a short time. We very much look forward to welcoming you into the classrooms. The school gates will be open 5 minutes earlier at 8:40am on Fridays to give you time to get to classes.

Year 3 DT Week - We will be designing and making our own Stone Age tools using natural materials. We would be really grateful for any sticks, string or garden twine to help us with our designs. Thanks from Year 3

Year 6 Oral Health Survey - Please see the letter here for more details.

School meal bookings and cancellations - A reminder that meals can be booked up to two days in advance - don't forget to book meals for next half term. If your child is not in school for any reason please can you let the office know by 9am if you would like us to cancel your meal order for that day. Thank you

Tuesday 1st March - menu change - on our return from half term, the Tuesday back will be Shrove Tuesday. St Josephs will be changing the dessert from Flapjack for this day to provide you with Pancakes, Sugar and Lemon juice

Accident-Free in CSG - Thank you to those parking at the playing fields and considerately around the village. Please think about your speed if you have to use roads around the schools.

CSG Parish Church Discovery Day - Saturday 26th February - The Friends of Chalfont St Giles Parish Church are holding a Discovery Day on Saturday 26th February (2-5pm) with lots of items on display, some of which are in situ especially for this occasion. It’s free to enter and has a community/historic leaning, including:

  • One of Oliver Cromwell’s cannon balls and a bible that was carried by his soldiers will be on display (from when they camped at Stone Meadow in the village in the Civil War)
  • Registers of marriages and baptisms from recent and past times (to find family members)
  • Ancient wall paintings and murals
  • A guide to the ancient graffiti in the church and what it means
  • Body stones (to protect graves from body snatchers)
  • Ancient wall-paintings, murals and brasses
  • The chance to try bell-ringing
  • Learn about notable villagers buried in the graveyard and their role in history (including George Fleetwood, one of the judges in the trial of Charles I who signed his death warrant)
  • .. and more .. join us for a cup of tea or glass of squash!
  •
The church is nearly 1000 years old and the centuries are marked in the church in numerous different ways. The goal of the Discovery Day is simply to share this community history and the beautiful artefacts - more details here
