Junior - Weekly Email

Dear All

Another busy week at the Junior School. Year 5 have been so lucky with the weather and it has been great to keep track of their PGL week via the blog. Year 6 have worked really hard this week juggling SATS, Mini Enterprise and wedding celebration rehearsals. Year 4 have been planning their assembly for Wednesday morning and Year 3 have been busy growing plants for their allotment and working outdoors at every opportunity. Thank you to the PTA for serving squash and biscuits to the whole school this afternoon. This was much appreciated as was the use of recyclable cups!

Walk to School Week - next week is Walk to School Week and children who are walking in may wear trainers to school. Our JRSOs recentaly gave an assembly to all of the children to remind children of the Green Cross Code. Please make time to reinforce this at home by looking at the Green Cross Code online here

Free School Meals - We would like to remind parents that if they are in receipt of certain benefits their son or daughter is eligible for Free School Meals. This not only benefits parents financially, but the school will also receive additional funding through the government’s Pupil Premium Scheme.  From 1 April 2018 the criteria used to determine which pupils are eligible for free school meals have been updated to reflect the introduction of Universal Credit and the phasing out of other income-based benefits.  The eligibility criteria are shown on the application form available on the forms page of the school website here. For those parents wishing to apply, the completed form should be returned to the School Office.

Cleaner required - The Infant School is looking to employ a hardworking and cheerful cleaner, with excellent communication skills to assist our current team between now and the end of term. We require someone to work from 3.30pm to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, in the main school block to maintain our classrooms and public areas to a high standard of cleanliness. Pay will be based on Bucks Pay Scale 1A/5, from £7.83 per hour. If you are a self-motivated, committed individual; with a 'can-do' attitude to ensure all our cleaning needs are covered, then this could be the role for you!  Please enquire at either school office for further information including an application form and job description.

Lockdown and Fire Alarm procedures for visitors on site - from time to time we carry out practice Lockdown and Fire Drill procedures to ensure that everyone at our school is clear what to do in case of an emergency situation. Our Lockdown signal is an intermittent bell - if this sounds it is to signal a danger on site such as atmospheric pollution, a potentially dangerous human or animal on site. When this alarm sounds everyone should make their way indoors - during breaktimes Oak and Maple or Main Block are the designated safe zones for children and visitors. Our Fire Alarm is a constant ringing bell - this is triggered by our smoke detectors on site. when this alarm sounds everyone should make their way to the Lower Playground - pupils to class lines and visitors to gather on the playground near the Only One You area fence. Thank you.

Sunglasses - children should not be wearing sunglasses in school unless they have a medical reason for doing so. If your child suffers with hayfever or has prescription sunglasses please can you drop a note to the School Office by letter or by email. Non prescription sunglasses should be kitemarked.

Headlice - we have had a few cases of headlice reported this week. Please can we ask that you regularly check your child's hair and treat any occurrence of head lice.

Mini Enterprise Sales - please remember that children should be handing any mini enterprise spending money to class teachers each morning. Money should be in a named envelope or resealable bag with name and amount written on it.

PTA Updates

  • Bags2School - bags can be dropped off on Monday 21st May from 08:30 to 09:15 - please look out for PTA members by the turning circle at the top of Parsonage Road and on the playing field car park on Monday morning for dropping of bags. If you are dropping off at Parsonage Road please try to car share and do not block access for any of our neighbours or obstruct the footpath for people walking. Thank you.

  • Dear Mums - The deadline is fast approaching to purchase Father’s Day shopping vouchers, the gift selection is fantastic and is from a great company who specialise in pop up shops! There is no need to have extra cash on Mums to school day and if you can’t make it the children can still shop securely and choose something special! Due to ensuring we have enough stock and to minimise the PTA being left with lots of unsold stock, it has to be pre-order only!  So please keep those orders rolling in! Thank you for your support. The Junior School PTA

Growth Mindset Day -  On Thursday 7th June the whole school will be participating in a Growth Mindset Day. The children will be split into mixed class groups and will rotate around a range of exciting activities throughout the day.  The activities will be designed for children to use their different 'Gem Powers' and reflect on the importance of having a growth mindset. This should be a wonderful experience and opportunity for the children to work with others across the school.
