Junior - Weekly Email

Dear All

Achievements - many of our children recently entered the Rotary Computer Challenge. The Rotary Club of Misbourne Matins received entries from over 1000 children from 10 different local primary schools with 12 prize winning children in total. The prize giving ceremony was held last Friday in Gerrards Cross and we are delighted that our school did really well with three winning children:  Mia won the Year 3 First Prize and received a book token for herself plus £100 for the school. Amelie D won the 3rd place prize for Year 3 and Annie won the 4th prize in the Year 6 category. Congratulations to all of our prize winners.

Cool Milk at morning break - Instead of individual cartons and straws our milk is now being delivered in regular plastic milk bottles and we have Cool Milk cups. As the cups are washable and the milk bottles are easier to recycle this will the litter we produce. If your child is signed up to have milk please remind them to still collect their milk from the Dining Hall during morning break.

Reading Eggs - New Online Resources to Support Reading at home - Over the past few weeks, children across both schools have been trialing the Reading Eggs Scheme. This is a fabulous resource designed to build children's reading and comprehension skills. For more information about the scheme please see the attached information sheet. The feedback from children, parents and staff has been very positive so we have decided to purchase the scheme for the next 18 months. On 15th May at 18:30 at the Junior School and 18th May at 09.00 at the Infant School, we will be launching the scheme and showing parents how to use the resources. We look forward to welcoming you.

The introduction of the Reading Egg Scheme has been made possible through the support of Chalfont St Giles Community Library. We would like to thank the trustees for their generous support. Please encourage your children to get in the habit of borrowing books from the Community Library this will really help with improving their reading and enjoyment of books. You can join Bucks libraries at the Community Library - joining form https://www.buckscc.gov.uk/media/2150/join-your-library.pdf. Children can borrow up to 20 books on their library card and book reservations are free for children. Each class has a scheduled visit to our Community Library which is opening specially for us during the school day.

Eco Warriors - details of the Eco Warriors litter campaign have been added to their website page here

Gardening - children are going down to the Outdoor Learning Vegetable beds at various times this term. If you know that your child is due to garden and the weather is wet please ensure that they have spare trainers or wellingtons to wear.
