Junior - Weekly Email

Dear All

It has been lovely to start the new term with such a sunny week. Year 3 very much enjoyed exploring the village yesterday afternoon and there has been a chance for the first outdoor wake-and-shake sessions of the term. There have been some fantastic costumes for our fundraising "Dress as a Teacher" day today and we have collected just over £200 for the Iain Rennie charity. Thank you.

Gardening Competition - The classes have all received their basic planting packs and they have been choosing their gardening plots in the outdoor learning area. They are starting to think about what they want to grow and if you are able to help with this project and have a school DBS please contact your class rep or class teacher. If you are not able to help but could donate some items then seeds or seedlings or compost or gardening twine are a then that would be much appreciated. The competition is aimed at growing edible items in the plots so if you have any gardening knowledge or ideas please do share them via your children.

Menus - St Joseph's kitchen have been reviewing the risks of food allergens and how they deal with them. As a consequence of this they have decided to remove a few items from the menu that have a "may contain nuts" warning on the product label.  This is a precautionary measure only as the products should not contain nuts, but St Josephs have decided to replace them with alternatives anyway. To make things easy for you to see the items affected are as follows, by week:

Week 2 - Cheese & Tomato Tart

Week 5 - Vegetable stir-fry -  (the menu item/description remains the same, we are using an alternative ingredient/product); Chinese Chicken with noodles - (the menu item/description remains the same, we are using an alternative ingredient/product); Bean & Vegetable Pastie -  (the menu item/description remains the same, we are using an alternative ingredient/product)

Week 6 - Gluten Free Madiera Cake Slice - (being replaced with a new products of Chocolate Chip Muffin)

The menu for the Summer term has been added to the school website hereAllergen sheets for all of the menus are also available on the School Meals page on the website here. Copies of the new 6 week menu are also available in the Dining Hall and each class should have a copy on display.

Parent reps meeting minutes can be found on the Class Reps page of the website here. Thank you to all of the parent reps for the support that they provide to the class teachers.
