Junior - Weekly Email

Dear All

Childcare survey - thank you to everyone who has responded to the survey on before and after school childcare. This survey will close at 9am on Wednesday 31st January.

EcoWarriors - This term the Eco Warriors will be on wildlife watch! We will be researching the wildlife that currently uses our school grounds and trying to encourage this further. We have already had a go at making hanging bird feeders out of multi grain hoops for the birds and will be visiting our outdoor areas to come up with a plan to encourage more wildlife. If any children across the school have some spare time and would like to research local wildlife for our ’Eco’ display board in the dining hall, we would love to put any posters, creations or work up! Similarly, if you and your family fancy a new project, National Nest Box week is coming up in February and we would love to put up any nesting boxes or bird feeders around the school that the children have made and brought in.
We will celebrate all creations on our website so watch this space! (Link to eco warrior page). Happy wildlife watching! Mrs Coleman.

PTA Kids Disco Tickets - Dear Parents, We still have a small handful of disco tickets left for next Fridays (2nd February) disco, if your child would like one please return a completed form & payment to the PTA box no later than Wednesday (31st January) or drop us an email on csgjs-pta@hotmail.co.uk. Many thanks, The Junior School PTA

Lagger Close and Hillside Close - we have had complaints from local residents about inconsiderate parking in both Hillside and Lagger Close. Please do not block pavements or driveways whilst waiting to pick up your children at the end of the day. Park well away from the hashed lines that mark the footpath exit onto Lagger Close at the turning circle as children need to have clear visibility and space to cross the road at this point. Please do not block the turning circle.

Pick up arrangements - as of Monday 29th January our new after school pick up arrangements will come into place.
  • Children who are not collected by a certain time will be brought over to the Dining Hall/ Reception area to wait. Childminders are welcome to collect children from here if it is easier and safer to walk up Parsonage Road.
  • All Year 3 and Year 4 children will need to be picked up from their classroom.
  • We are advising parents that they are able to nominate an other adult to collect children from the classroom and to walk them to meet childminder offsite but that Junior School staff are not available for this role.
  • If permission is given for a Year 5 or 6 child to leave the classroom this will apply every day and these children can meet parent/childminder on playground or make their way offsite. We do not need details of nominated adults if a child has been given consent to leave the classroom
  • Children who are not collected by a certain time will be brought over to the Dining Hall/ Reception area to wait until collected.
  • Children attending after school clubs, and who are not collected by an adult or who do not have consent to leave the classroom, will be collected from classes by club leaders or taken to the club by members of school staff if this is not possible.
  • These changes have been made for the reasons given in the rationale statements in the original email to parents - to improve pupil safety and increase staff-parent contact at the end of the day. There has been no specific incident that has triggered this change. When the beginning of day arrangements were changed in November we did mention that we were also looking at options for the end of day arrangements, but we did not wish to make all of the changes at the same time.
