Junior - Weekly Email

Dear All

What a lovely weekend of community events we had in the village last week - with the Scout and Guide fireworks show and the Remembrance Parade and church services. Thank you to the Year 6 House Captains for selling poppies in school last week and thank you to Daniel in Year 6 for laying a wreath on behalf of the school at the ceremony at the war memorial. Pudsey visited assembly on Monday morning courtesy of the Misbourne Matins Rotary Club and we held a sale of Children in Need merchandise during morning break. After school saw another charity event in which Year 6 children raised £115 for Child Line with a cake sale. Well done to them for a fantastic sale. The Book Fair has been running during the week and the children have purchased lots of books. Thank you to staff and Year 6 helpers for running the book fair. The PTA Children's Disco is being held tonight - please remember pick up time in 19:30 and only Parsonage Road gate will be open during the evening.

Appointments - please can you give as much notice as possible if your child has a dental or a medical appointment. A quick email to the School Office a week or so before means that we can ensure that office and teaching staff are aware of arrangements in good time.

Menu changes - as of Monday 4th December it will be possible to pre-order gluten free sausages, burgers or meatballs as well as Friday's fish dishes - revised menus have been added to the school meals' page of the website here

Pencil cases: please can you ensure that your child has the following basics in their pencil case - HB pencils, pencil sharpener (with container), glue stick, eraser, whiteboard pen, handwriting pens (if have pen licence) and a ruler. Please name items whenever possible. The school stationery shop now has a stock of pre-filled pencil cases for sale. Small cases for £3.50 contain 15cm ruler, eraser, pencil sharpener, handwriting pens (1 blue, 1 black), HB pencil x2, whiteboard pen and glue stick. Large pencil case for £5.00 contains a 30cm ruler, eraser, pencil sharpener, handwriting pens (1 blue, 1 black), HB pencil x2, whiteboard pen, glue stick, protractor and a pack of 12 colouring pencils.

School photographs - Imago Photography have extended the order deadline to Sunday 19th November - if you order by this date photographs will be delivered to school with no delivery charge. Parents need to contact Imago direct if you do not want your child's image to be used in their publicity material as per their terms and conditions.

Shop for School Voucher Scheme - I am pleased to say that the running total of funds raised through this scheme from September is now standing at an impressive £455 - half of what we made the whole of last year!  We have been encouraged by the growing enthusiasm that this scheme is now attracting.  Those of you who are participating regularly are beginning to spread the details of its ease and simplicity throughout our parent community and that is beginning to show in our numbers.  December is, for most of us, a big shopping month and we are hoping that our regular users may be thinking of increasing their amounts this month and that those of you who have been thinking about getting involved, actually make that first move to get involved. Please do not hesitate to email Sue Crosbie on csg.shopforschool@gmail.com.

School Christmas lunch - Wednesday 6th December - For this special menu St Joseph’s kitchen needs exact meal numbers so on this occasion we have to ask you to pre-order meal choices. We had asked meal choices to be sent in by the end of today Friday 17th November but the Google Forms online registration will be open until Monday morning (20th November)

Walk to School Month will take place for both the Junior and Infant Schools from Monday 20th November 2017 to Friday 15th December 2017. The idea behind Walk to School Month is to increase children’s awareness of the dangers of walking and how to cross roads and walk on pavements safely. There are also considerable health benefits to walking to school that we can all benefit from! We would like to encourage you all to park in the designated areas, such as Blizzards Yard car park or Bowstridge playing area car park, and walk the rest of the way to school. There will also be a theme for each ‘Walk on Wednesday’ (WOW). If the children walk to school on Wednesday they can also wear their trainers.

Year 3 - Egyptian Nativity DVD orders - Mr Jackson will be producing a DVD of the production. If you would like to order a copy please can you send in payment of £7.50 in a sealed envelope with your child's name and Y3 DVD written on the envelope - cash or cheques payable to Mr G Jackson please. If orders can be sent in by Monday 4th December please so that we can be sure that we have sufficient orders to cover Mr Jackson's costs.

Year 4 - Roman Day - Tuesday 28th November - Thank you to those of you who have sent in your £1 voluntary donations towards the cost of Year 4's Roman Day. To date approximately half of the year group have made a contribution and we do not have any parent helpers. If you are able to send in a £1 towards the costs of materials for this workshop please can you send it into the School Office in a sealed envelope with your child's name and Roman Day written on it. If you are able to come into school to help with Roman Day please can you let the School Office know or talk to any of the Year 4 teachers. If there are no parent helpers then the morning workshop activities will not be able to take place and the structure of the day will have to be revised - though children will still be dressing as Romans and having a Roman themed day. Year 4 teachers will have to reconsider their plans next Wednesday if there are no offers of help. It is not compulsory for adult helpers to dress up nor to have a DBS for helping with this one session.

Year 4 - Waddesdon Lantern - Last week Year 4 had the chance to create decorations for a willow lantern, which is to be on display at Waddesdon Manor over their Christmas season. Our theme was the badger, so we decorated natural materials that the children had collected with badger patterns, as well as creating badger silhouettes. Some of the designs were very impressive and the children put a lot of thought and effort into their crafts. The lantern will be on display at Waddesdon Manor until the new year. Waddesdon is a National trust property, so those with a National Trust membership will have free entry to the grounds to see the lantern. There will also be a National Trust Representative at the village duck pond fair on December 16th, should you wish to purchase or renew a membership.

Full details of the trail can be found at https://waddesdon.org.uk/whats-on/yuletide-willow-lantern-trail/ Please also see the Year 4 blog here to see a picture of our lantern, unlit at the moment! Miss Warner

Year 6 - Planners - Year 6 children are now using their planners in place of reading records and to note down future lessons and class activities. Parents please can you regularly go through your child's planner with them to see what activities are happening in class - perhaps over the weekends - and sign and date the week's that you have done this.
