LSA Email - Year 5 - Friday 3rd April

Greetings Gorgeous Guys, Brilliant Beech, Marvellous Maple, Fabulous Folk of year 5!

A virtual house point for anybody who can tell us which literary device we just used!

Hope you are all staying safe and well. It’s an unusual time for us all to be isolated and away for all we know as normality, however we are sure you are doing your best to keep yourselves amused.  We miss your smiling faces and it’s been very strange not seeing you all.

We were very lucky to have the sun shining last week and we managed to get out in our gardens and go for a walk. Have you been keeping yourselves fit with Joe Wicks? Have you managed to find all his spot the differences? We have all been giving it a go. Mr and Mrs Salmon tried it ...Phew …they have now moved to doing   – ‘10 minute workout for Seniors’ -  with Joe instead!!

Mrs Salmon has also been using the time to practise her putting skills and set up a crazy golf course in her lounge. Mr Salmon won and they are having a re match this week.

Miss Footwells has been keeping busy with her son and like you in year 5 he has been kept occupied with lots of lovely fun activities from the infant school. She has also put her culinary skills to good use and made gingerbread, lemon drizzle cake and banana loaf. They sound yummy perhaps she will bring some into school  when we return and we can all have a little sample.

Mrs Patrick-Smith has been really enjoying the beautiful blue skies too and Ted, her Chocolate Labrador was very happy that she was home so that he could spend lots of time in the garden with his favourite cuddly rabbit.

Miss Smerdon and her daughter have also been spending time in the garden  doing maths on the trampoline (counting in 2s and 5s), creating obstacle courses, playing catch over a badminton net and driving her toy car.

Whilst in the garden clearing some of the ivy from their walls her daughter found lots of lovely bugs: woodlice, ladybirds, beetles and a few ants. They made a bug hotel. She loves them! They also discovered a red spider that they had never seen before called the Woodlouse Spider - it gets its name because it likes to eat woodlice!.

Miss Smerdon is also teaching herself to play the guitar making up songs and poems. Her daughter is attempting to make up jokes but hasn’t quite got the hang of it, she needs your help here Elijah!

A little something for you to think about from a mathematical point of view:

What makes 100%

What does it mean to give 100%

If a=1, b=2, c=3, d=4, e=5, f=6, g=7, h=8, i=9, j=10, k=11, l=12, m=13, n=14, o=15, p=16, q=17, r=18, s=19, t=20, u=21, v=22, w=23, x=24, y=25, z = 26.

Then hard work = H +A+R+D+W+O+R+K = 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 =98%

Knowledge is K+N+O+W+L+E+D+G+E = 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5 = 96%

Luck is L+U+C+K = 12+21+3+11 = 47%

If there is a problem, then most problems have a solution perhaps we need to have a change of attitude to get to that 100%.

ATTITUDE A+T+T+I+T+U+D+E = 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5 = 100%

Attitude is everything. Keep up that fabulous attitude that you have and you will succeed in your work and we will get through this tough time.

See what percent your name makes!

With fondest thoughts,

Mrs Salmon, Mrs Patrick-Smith, Miss Smerdon and Miss Footwells.
