Autumn Term 2017
FOREST SCHOOL - Year 2
To all Diamond and Amethyst class parents
For the summer term, Year 2 classes will be experiencing Forest School. Amethyst class sessions will be on Thursday afternoons and Diamond class sessions will be on Friday afternoons.
The children will all need to bring their Forest School clothes to school on the appropriate day. They will need long sleeves and long trousers to protect their skin from branches and brambles. Please send your child with wellington boots and a coat. If they get too warm, they can take layers off so it is always best to have too much than too little! We will be going out to the woodland area in most weather conditions so children MUST be appropriately dressed with warm clothes and waterproofs. We will judge the weather on the day so please send their clothes every week.
On your child’s Forest School day, you will need to collect them from the Memorial Hall entrance opposite the Shakman playground. This is to ensure that the children get the most time available to pursue their outdoor learning and to enable a prompt return for home time.
From this Thursday 27th and Friday 28th April when it is your child’s Forest School afternoon please ensure you send your child with their clothes and then collect them from the Memorial Hall entrance at the end of the day. We will have all their belongings with us and will dismiss the children from there. If you have other children to collect from the Infant School, please collect them first.
In the event of extreme weather conditions where we are unable to access the outdoors we will dismiss the children from their usual exits at the Infant School.
Welcome to our new Forest School Newsletter! We are extremely fortunate to have three qualified Forest School Leaders – Mrs Ballard, Miss Witts and Mrs Mannion.
We have been running Forest School sessions since 2004 firstly for the Nursery and in recent years also Reception classes. These have taken place at the Chiltern Open Air Museum, and last summer term Year 2 experienced Forest School with Mrs Mannion within our own school grounds.
We have developed our school grounds extensively last year to enable us to provide Forest School experiences to all our children at some point throughout the academic year.
We have been kindly offered access to a woodland area within our own village as well as accessing our school site. We have therefore planned sessions for Ruby class on Thursday afternoons and Emerald class on Friday afternoons for the Autumn term, led by Mrs Ballard. Amethyst class and Diamond class will have their Forest School opportunity later in the year. Miss Witts will continue to take small groups from Pearl class and Sapphire class throughout the year. Nursery will be introduced to Forest School activities in the Nursery Garden. We are very excited to be developing Forest School to a new level and giving more outdoor learning opportunities to your children!
