Junior - Weekly email (sent home 8th Feb)

Dear All

Congratulations and best wishes to Mr Holmes and his wife who have had a baby boy this week. Mr Holmes will be on paternity leave for the remainder of this half term and Mrs Fawcett has joined us to teach Maple class during his absence.

Monday saw Year 6 trying something new with an in depth look at the workings of the heart as part of their science topic. They also visited a new museum for our school when they went to Brooklands Museum to look at the different forms of transport - highlights of the trip were sitting inside a Lancaster Bomber and going onto a Concorde. Thank you to Year 6 staff for organising these events.

A huge thank you to the parents of the year 5 and 6 children who travelled to Stowe on Wednesday for the Bucks County Cross Country Championships - Sammy, Aiden, Yasmin, Danielle, Zain, George and Isabelle represented our school at this event. Well done to them all for competing on a tough course against some of the best runners in the county.

Parsonage Road - we have had several reports recently of potentially dangerous driving on Parsonage Road. We do ask that parents do not park on this road at pick up or drop off times and please do not come into the staff car park or block the turning circle at the top of Parsonage Road.  Our Safe Parking Zone is described in full on the School Travel Planning page of our website and is also summarised below. There is free parking on the Bowstridge Lane playing fields car par or parking permits are available for the Blizzards Yard car park behind the CoOp. Thank you.

Please protect the safety of the children at Chalfont St Giles Village School by being a thoughtful driver and avoiding School Lane, Parsonage Road, Lagger Close and Hillside Close at peak times.

Adults - would you like to be an Eco Warrior volunteer? We are looking for adult helpers with a current DBS who would like to join us and work on our current campaigns with us, helping us to organise our events or carry out our activities! It really is a fantastic opportunity to work with enthusiastic children on exciting projects. Upcoming projects will include wildlife watching, litter picking, recycling, planting etc. If you think you might be able to spare the odd half an hour here or there, Mrs Coleman would love to hear from you!

Arts week 1 - The week commencing Monday 25th February is Arts Week (straight after half term). As part of this week each class will be designing and making their own musical instruments. In order to make this happen we would really appreciate donations of the following items.  Please can any Arts Week donations be given in to the School Office by Wednesday 13th February:

  • wooden spoons

  • jam jar lids

  • long cardboard tubes from inside wrapping paper or kitchen foil etc (not toilet roll or kitchen roll tubes please)

  • round, plastic tubs for making drums (e.g. like the ones that contain cake bites from supermarkets - empty ones only please and with lids!)

Year 4 - Saxon day workshop - we have been granted an extension so we now have until Monday 11th February to raise sufficient funds for this workshop to take place. If you are able to make a contribution towards the costs of this workshop day please can you do so via ParentPay or send cash or cheques in to the school office for Monday morning. We have suggested £7.15 per child but any contributions would be gratefully received. Thank you to those of you who have made a donation.
