Junior - Weekly email (sent Friday 28th June)

Dear all

We hope that everyone in Year 6 has enjoyed their week whether they were in school with Mrs Davies or in France with Miss Murray, Mrs Bannister, Mrs Crosbie, Miss Warner, Mrs Salmon and Mrs Starrs. A huge thank you to these members of staff for organising these weeks and we are looking forward to hearing all about their adventures.

It has been lovely to meet the Year 2 children who will be starting with us in September during their transition visits this week and welcome to our weekly email.

School ties are not to be worn again this week as the weather is still very warm. Children will be outside a lot during over the next few weeks so please remember to apply suncream before children come to school and ensure that they have sun hats and water bottles.

Sports week is on next week and as there are a lot of off-timetabled activities for the children so we not require any volunteer readers, maths or gardening helpers next week - many thanks. The sports week letter is available here if you require further details.

County Transfer/Transition Day - Tuesday 2nd July 2019

  • Current Year 2 children are invited to spend the day in their new September Year 3 classes. These children should wear their current school uniform. Invitation letters have been sent out to parents with details. Children will be collected from our lower playground, by school staff at 08:45, and registered in main hall. Children are to be collected, by parents, from school staff and they will be in the wet weather shelter on the lower playground at the end of the school day at 15:30. Please note that the school Hillside Close and Lagger Close gates are open between 08:40 and 09:05 and then again from 15:20.

  • Current Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 children to attend Junior School as normal - they will spend the day in their new September classes. These children should wear their current school uniform. Children are to go to their current classes as usual for morning registration. Children are to be collected from the classrooms of their new year groups at the end of the school day - this may mean walking by both classrooms in the year group to pick up your child. If your current year 5 child has permission to walk home on their own this still applies today.

  • Current Year 6 children do not attend Junior School today. They will either attend the Transfer Day at their Secondary School. If their Secondary School does not have a transfer day on Tuesday 2nd July they are asked to not come to the Junior School (this will be noted as an authorised absence for all Year 6 children).

  • Children (other than current Year 6) who will be moving to a new school in September - please can these parents contact the School Office to confirm their child's new school (if not already done so) and to confirm where they will be attending on Transfer Day.

Open evening on Tuesday 2nd July - this is very much an informal occasion where your child can show you their classroom and the work they have done through the year. Current children and parents plus new joiners are all welcome to visit. There will be an induction meeting for new Year 3 parents in the Dining Hall starting at 7pm and our uniform suppliers PMG will be in the Main Hall. There will be a very limited stock of new and second hand uniform on sale.

Sponsored walk on Wednesday 3rd July - our annual sponsored walk is a highlight of the year, and aside from funds provided by the PTA, it is the school's main fundraising event. Your support is crucial to making the event a success. This year we will be collecting sponsor money via ParentPay as the preferred method of sending in money. Letter with details and sponsor form are available from the office or on the website.

Sports Day Afternoon on Friday 5th July – Parents are welcome to attend the afternoon of sports day – events will be held on the school field between 13:20 and 15:15. Please note that The Lagger Close gate and the side footpath gate from the car park to the school field will only be unlocked between 13:15 and 13:30. Please do not take any Junior School children home directly from the Sports Afternoon but wait until they have been dismissed from class at normal end of day at 15:30. School gates will be unlocked at normal time of 15:25. Any parents that need to leave the school site between 13:30 and 15:25 will have to leave via the main school entrance. The children will be rotating around field activities for the first part of the afternoon and there will be designated spectator zones so feel free to bring along a camping chair or blanket. It is up to you whether you base yourself somewhere or you prefer to follow your junior child around. The children will begin the field activities in the morning and these will continue into the afternoon when parents can spectate. These activities will finish before the track events begin.

Library books - in preparation for our summer library stock take please can children return any school library books that they have. Library helpers will not be issuing any books for the remainder of the term.

Lost property - we have a large amount of lost property in the room off the main hall. This will be sorted through at the end of the term. Items will be disposed of as either school spares, local charity shops or binned as appropriate. If your child is missing any items please take a moment to look through the lost property items.

Thank you to all of our volunteer helpers - whether you have helped support our children by reading, being a governor, running the library, been in the PTA committee, taken children gardening or been in a trip with is we would like to invite you for a thank you cup of tea or coffee on the morning of Friday 19th July, at the Junior School Dining Hall between 9am and 10am. If you are able to join us please can you RSVP to either office.

Community events - CSG Village Show will take place on Saturday 7th September - click here for details of the parade and the talent show.

Free copies of the Chalfont St Giles Show schedules, listing all competitions, are now available at the school office and the show committee hopes the children (and their parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, etc!) will enjoy entering lots of classes this year.
